It was only a matter of time to hear VR news from Facebook. Rumors say the social media company is working on a 360 video VR app for Android and iOS.
Since Facebook acquired Oculus for $2 billion, and Mark Zuckerberg called virtual reality “the obvious next thing after video“, this comes as no surprise. According to The Wall Street Journal they’re currently working on a 360 degree video app for smartphones and maybe other devices likes Oculus Rift. Whoever leaked the information, obviously didn’t want to be recognized.
Yet, they only spoke about the 360 degree video function, which isn’t really a new thing, as there are already a dozen of these apps available, like VRSE and others working along with Youtube #360. Hence, it will be interesting to see if the app works together with Facebook’s social network or as a complete standalone.
Facebook declined to comment, and thus may have confirmed their work on this secret app. A release date still has to be announced.
Do you think we’re in need of another 360 video app or would you prefer a Facebook VR social network app with 360 functionality? Tell us in the comment-section below!
