How to Type the Beta Symbol (β)

Follow these simple methods for inserting the beta symbol (β) on a Windows PC, Mac, or iOS and Android devices.

It’s not a heavy lift to insert the beta symbol (β) in a document on a Windows PC, on a Mac, or on an iOS or Android device. With quick and easy keyboard shortcuts, anyone can type this ancient Greek letter, often used in math and science.

How to Insert the Beta Symbol on a Windows PC

If you’re typing on a Windows PC, click to the place in your document where you would like to insert the beta symbol. Next, hold the Alt key and type the numbers 225.  

You can also insert the beta symbol into a Microsoft Word document using the Advanced Symbols library. First, click the Insert tab. Then open the Advanced Symbol library and enter “beta” into the search bar. Double click on the beta symbol to include it in your document.

If you plan on using the beta symbol multiple times in a Microsoft Word document, you can adjust your AutoCorrect options to automatically replace a word or phrase (such as “beta”) with the symbol. First, copy the symbol from this article: β. Then, search under the Tools tab for AutoCorrect options. In the replace field, choose a word or phrase (such as “beta”) and then in the with field, paste the symbol. Now press add. 

How to Insert the Beta Symbol on a Mac

The fastest way to include the beta symbol on a Mac is by going to your Emoji and Symbols library. Tap the globe key or hold down Control, Command, and Spacebar to open the Character Viewer. Search for “beta.” Then double-click the beta symbol or highlight and drag the symbol into your document.

How to Insert the Beta Symbol on an iPhone or iPad

When typing on an iPhone, the simplest way to access the beta symbol is by changing your keyboard settings to include Greek. Under Settings, tap General, then Keyboards. From here, you can “Add New Keyboard.” Now you can open the application where you would like to type the beta sign, which is the Greek lowercase b. 

How to Insert the Beta Symbol on an Android Phone

If you’ve installed the Google keyboard, Gboard, on your Android Phone, you can find the beta symbol by toggling to a Greek keyboard. First tap on Settings, then Languages, followed by Add keyboard. Then find the Greek lowercase b to insert the beta symbol into your document or message.
